Small Group Wine Tasting Events (under 30 guests)
These are designed to provide an intimate, casual setting for your guests to learn about and enjoy great wines. Your guests will come away from the event having learned about new wines (no chardonnays, or merlots here!) and ideas on how to pair them with food.
I’ll answer questions and create a climate that will allow everyone to be involved with the wine experience. I will dispel myths about wines and offer great tips on entertaining with wine.
Typically, six wines are presented and tasted. One sparkler, two whites, two reds, and a dessert wine. Wines can be selected by region, style, theme or price-range. My favorite theme is value-priced wines. Most of my clients get excited to learn about great wines that are well-priced. I believe that you do not need to spend a lot of money to drink delicious wine every day!
- A fun wine quiz is given to break the ice. A small gift is given to the winner.
- JoAnn will review “The Art of Wine Tasting” in Wine Tasting 101.
- Wines are presented one at a time, with much attention to details about how the wine is made and where it originates. Wine and food pairing ideas are suggested.
- Wine tasting notes are provided to each guest.
- Discussions will include, but are not limited to purchasing wine in stores, ordering wine in a restaurant, wine storage, Old World vs. New World wines, wine nomenclature, “Is Chardonnay the same as White Burgundy?”
- Guests are encouraged to ask questions and I will create a relaxed atmosphere, free from wine-geek lingo and pretentiousness.
- Guests will leave with handouts that I have put together about Suggested Wine Books, Wine Region Maps, and Wine Know-How.
These tastings usually last about two hours. I arrive about 30 minutes prior to the event to help set up the wine. The host provides the glassware, the food (if desired), the water and the venue.
I can make food pairing/appetizer recommendations or provide caterer suggestions, if desired. I will work directly with a caterer to decide on menu options for wine/food pairings.

Large Group Wine Tasting Events (30 or more guests)
These events are designed as a bar set-up or walk around tasting for larger, more informal groups. This is the perfect way to host a wine tasting party for a large group, when a sit-down “learning” event is just not possible or desired. Guests who are really interested in wine will be encouraged to ask questions about the wines selected for the evening. I will be on hand to serve the wine answer questions and mingle with guests. Depending on the size of the group, more pourers can be provided.
Typically 8 or 9 wines are selected for this type of event. They might be two sparkling wines, two or three whites, two or three reds, and if desired a dessert wine.
Wines can be selected by region, by varietal or by themes. One favorite theme among clients is Value-Priced Wines.
I believe that you do not need to spend a lot of money to drink delicious wine every day!
- Detailed tasting notes and food pairing suggestions are provided to each interested guest.
- Wines are discussed briefly and the guests select the wines they want to taste.
- Client selects the venue and provides the wine glasses, table rentals, etc.
These wine tasting events run three to four hours. I will arrive 30 minutes before the event to set-up and open the wines.
I can make recommendations for food pairings and/or caterer recommendation. If a caterer is used, I will work directly with them, to select menu items that pair well with the wines.
